7 Great Reasons to Start A Fitness Program

By Susanne Myersjogger

You know you should exercise on a regular basis because it’s “good for you”, but do you have a real reason to exercise? Getting in a habit of exercising 30 to 45 minutes a day as recommended isn’t an easy task. With a good enough reason, you can get in the habit of getting off the couch and start working out. Here are seven great reasons to start exercising.

Lose Weight

Along with healthy eating, exercising is an integral part of any successful exercise program. If you are trying to shed a few pounds starting to workout is a great way to improve your chances for success. Not only do you burn calories while you work out, but you will also increase your metabolism. A higher metabolism will burn more calories even when you’re not doing anything at all.

Lose Weight

on’t you love the look of long, lean muscles? If you want to get your body in shape and looking great you need to exercise. As you work out those muscles, your overall muscle tone improves. If you are ready to start getting rid of those flabs and squishy parts, grab those weights and start exercising.

More Energy

Are you feeling tired even after a goodnight sleep? If you are constantly grabbing a cup of coffee or caffeinated soda to keep you going, or crawl in the bed for a quick nap, exercise can help you get more energy. Working out will keep you more alert and energized all day long. It will also help you sleep better at night, resulting in even more energy for you the next day.

Reduce Stress

Our fast-moving society, doesn’t give us much time to de-stress. Exercise is a great way to reduce stress. Working out releases endorphins that make you feel better. You also have some time to think through your day and about your problems while you work out, making it just as effective as meditation to reduce stress.

Improve Self Esteem

Working out gives you a feeling of accomplishment and all this physical activity will make you look better. Both of these help improving your self-esteem. Your newfound self-esteem allows you to tackle the next workout challenge, creating a cycle of positive reinforcement that will keep you exercising.

Cardio Vascular Health

Let’s face it; heart disease is becoming a major health thread in our society. It is at least in part caused by unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise. If you’d like to do what you can to improve your cardio vascular health, start exercising and make it part of your daily routine. 30 minutes of cardio exercises a day will go a long way to protect your heart.

Sleep Better

If you have trouble falling a sleep or staying asleep through the night, try exercising. It has been shown to improve not only how quickly you fall asleep and stay asleep, but also sleep quality. You’ll wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the next day.

Pick one of these reasons or find one of your own such as not getting the diabetes that runs in or family, or to get back into shape for your high school reunion. Keep that reason in mind every time you don’t feel like exercising. Write it down and stick it on your bathroom mirror as a constant reminder of why you are starting to exercise. Before you know it working out will become a habit and an integral part of your healthy lifestyle.
